Hi

I have a small collection of shaded dogs perhaps 20-30 titles. I had picked up several mono versions and recently have begun to appreciate them more and more. If I understand correctly the early LPs were remastered as stereo but some prefer the older disc in mono if originally recorded that way.

Most of mine are VG or VG+. I have a few stampers in the 10-15 range.

Today I stumbled on a LM 2097 in essentially unplayed condition NM+ including the jacket. Stampers 1S/1S. I paid 3.60 for it. I just cleaned it and am listening to it for the first time. I hear what the fuss is about.

However there is something wrong in the first track that even my high compliance cart can’t track. Any suggestions on how to deal with this. Even if it’s not fixable it’s still a glorious find…and one of my favorite symphonies!

John,
I would say that if an lp only has one instrument, such as a solo piano or guitar, a mono lp (if available) would be preferable as far as harmonic info.

Update: after a couple of cleanings the bad spot I couldn’t track is gone!
